Our college athletes hold a special place in our heart.
Most often, these are the athletes who have grown up in the gym, using the skills and lessons they learned at CAL to earn scholarships and the chance to continue their athletic careers.
CAL’s focus is not just developing the athlete, but developing a players whole being…mind, body, soul. The effects of this unique approach are especially evident in our college athletes, as they possess the necessary skills to juggle the demands of being both a star player and student.
Cordell Lord, basketball player at Immaculata University, understands the importance of finding a balance.
“You have to always remember at the end of the day you’re a student-athlete and being in the classroom comes first before the court,” Lord said. “Without your classwork, they [colleges] won’t even give you a chance.”
CAL Sports Academy aims to instill a commitment to integrity and credibility in its student-athletes, intangibles that aren’t reflected in the score sheet but are critical in impressing college coaches.
Caitlyn Byrne, a student-athlete at Moravian College, credits CAL Sports Academy for making her a better person, not just athlete.
“Remember to work hard not only on the court, but also off the court,” Byrne said. “Because how you act, the way you treat others, and the decisions you make are just as important, if not way more important, than how you perform on the court.”
