CAL Sports focuses on Girls Only Basketball Training

Girls only basketball trainingDuring this past summer and fall, CAL Sports had some great success with our “Girls Only” programs. These classes were well attended, so we we’ve been compelled to grow our programs geared towards female athletes. We were proud to add Gina Cocci to our staff and have given her the task of developing our female basketball players. Coach Gina is a graduate of St. Hubert High School in Northeast Philadelphia. She was captain of the girls’ basketball team her senior year and received an award from the Markwood Basketball Club for Basketball Excellence. After graduating from St. Hubert’s, Coach Gina attended Immaculata University in Malvern, PA where she was a four-year member of the Women’s Basketball team. During her time at Immaculata she was the starting point guard for three years and was also a two-year captain. She also is an experienced AAU basketball coach.

We asked Coach Gina her thoughts on girl’s specific training, and she reflected on her own experiences growing up as a basketball player.  “Training with girls only doesn’t mean the workout is less challenging. What girls only training does do is give the female athletes an environment to make mistakes and ask questions. These are things they may be shy or nervous about in co-ed training.”

Gina has several chances for girls to train with her in the gym.  There are Girls Only classes for beginners and intermediates. She has brought back a girls AAU Travel team for the Spring, and is hosting a Girls Only In-House League for those who aren’t traveling with team Cobra.

Coach Gina also works extensively with CAL Sports CYO program at Corpus Christie in Lansdale training the girls teams for competition. She’d love to see you in the gym!
