Youth Basketball Coach

Job Description

CAL is seeking a responsible person who loves to coach and can provide instruction for kids ages 3-18. An applicant must have 3+ years of coaching experience as well as 3+ years of writing curriculums for their sports. This position is part-time, with varied hours/days, including nights and weekends. The coach will be responsible for specific instruction and guidance to improve player development. The coach will also be asked to assist in writing curriculums for their sport at various levels. The perfect candidate should act as a positive role model and positive voice for CAL Sports Academy. The individual must also act as a professional representative for CAL Sports Academy both in the gym and in the community. The coach reports directly to the Staff Director with coaching development provided by the Executive Team of CAL Sports Academy. Each coach will have the opportunity to work as a class instructor, small group instructor, or private instructor based on performance.

Job Requirements

  • Provide specific sports instruction and coaching to improve player development and overall player experience.
  • Follow the program curriculums and prepare lesson plans with specific drills in advance of the program each week.
  • Adjust programs based on skill levels and provide an engaging program for every child in the program depending on skill level.
  • Prepare the gym for the program by setting up in advance and having the appropriate equipment ready for the next drill.
  • Use active drills to promote team development and team communication.
  • Assess and communicate player skill to parent during clinics. Provide written recommendations to include additional programs and areas to improve on Recommendations Form.
  • Positively communicate to parents regarding player skills and improvements. Identify if new participants are engaged in the program and meet with parents at the end of the class.

Qualifications:

  • Previous coaching experience, preferably in youth basketball.
  • Strong understanding of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and player development.
  • Effective communication skills, both with players and parents.
  • Enthusiastic and motivational approach to coaching.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • CPR/First Aid certification is a plus.
  • Positive and professional demeanor, representing CAL Sports Academy in a positive light.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: Up to $25.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • After school
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed

Supplemental pay types:

  • Bonus opportunities

Experience:

  • Sports coaching: 2 years (Preferred)
