What AAU Basketball Means to Our Athletes

“I have absolutely no idea where I would be in life if I did not have basketball. I love playing basketball so much. CAL Sports has done so much for me and given me so many amazing opportunities over the past three years.

It all started from attending one Friday night basketball session, and from there a world of opportunities opened up for me. I am so grateful.

CAL Sports Academy is about more than just basketball. It is a place where there is family and a place to call home. The relationships built in that gym will last a lifetime.

Thank you for a wonderful third AAU season, Coach Corey. You are truly an amazing person. I appreciate everything you have done for me.”

What is AAU basketball?

AAU basketball is a competitive travel basketball experience for athletes who want to compete beyond recreational play, strengthen their skills, improve their basketball IQ, and gain additional game experience.

Where are CAL Sports Academy AAU basketball teams located?

CAL Sports Academy is based in the Lansdale, PA area and serves athletes and families throughout Montgomery County, Bucks County, and surrounding communities. Practice and tryout locations may vary by season.

Who can try out for CAL Sports Academy AAU basketball?

Tryouts may be available for boys and girls in grades 5 through 10. The specific grade divisions offered depend on the season, coaching availability, athlete interest, and the number of qualified players needed to form competitive teams.

When are AAU basketball tryouts held?

Tryouts for our primary spring AAU season are generally held in January and February. Additional tryouts or player evaluations may be held in June for summer teams and September for fall teams.

Our next scheduled tryout opportunity will be in September 2026. Exact dates, times, locations, and grade divisions will be announced.

Does CAL Sports Academy offer AAU basketball outside of the spring season?

Yes. In addition to our primary spring season, CAL Sports Academy may offer shorter summer and fall team opportunities for athletes who want to continue developing and competing. Team availability depends on athlete interest, coaching availability, and the ability to form appropriate competitive rosters.

Can my athlete join a team if they miss tryouts?

Possibly. If roster spots remain available, an athlete may be invited to attend an additional evaluation. Placement is not guaranteed and depends on the athlete’s grade, skill level, team fit, and current roster needs.

How are players evaluated?

Players are evaluated based on basketball fundamentals, effort, attitude, coachability, decision-making, basketball IQ, communication, competitiveness, and overall team fit. Team selection is based on more than scoring ability alone.

Does attending a tryout guarantee placement on a team?

No. Attending a tryout provides an opportunity to be evaluated but does not guarantee a roster position. Our goal is to form teams with athletes whose skill levels, effort, development needs, and playing styles are a suitable fit.

How long is the AAU basketball season?

Our primary spring season typically runs for approximately 15 weeks from March through June. Summer and fall programs are generally shorter, and their length may vary from year to year.

How often do teams practice?

Teams generally practice twice per week. The final practice schedule, locations, and number of practices will be provided before families commit to a team.

How many tournaments do teams play?

Spring teams generally participate in six or more weekend tournaments. Summer and fall teams may participate in fewer tournaments because those seasons are shorter. The tournament schedule and travel expectations will be provided when the season details are announced.

How far do teams travel?

Most tournaments are held within approximately 30 minutes to two hours of the Lansdale area. Travel distance may vary depending on the team, grade level, season, and tournament schedule.

Does CAL Sports Academy offer training outside of team practices?

Yes. Athletes may participate in basketball classes and clinics, small-group training, private training, and advanced training programs to continue improving outside of team practices.

How much does AAU basketball cost?

Program pricing varies by season based on the number of practices, tournaments, uniforms, coaching expenses, and other team costs. Fall 2026 pricing will be announced before families are asked to accept a roster position.
