What Parents Should Know About CAL Sports Travel Teams

If your athlete is looking for a higher level of competition in volleyball or basketball, then our travel team program can help meet that need! CAL Sports offers your athlete’s the next level of training. The travel team is a more focused and dedicated program that requires athletes to practice between 2 to 3 times per week. This amount of time may not be enough for your child, so we would also recommend private lessons with a Developmental Coach. Our professional coaches are determined to help your athlete gain a higher level of skills to help their team win at competitions.

TOURNAMENTS
Our travel team program tournaments are sanctioned by AAU Basketball and USA Volleyball. Some competitions are also conducted with well-known directors. The tournaments scheduled for competition will mostly take place on Saturdays and Sundays. Please keep in mind that there are several games on each day. The winning teams will keep advancing to the next round until the tournament is over and a winner is determined. We compete in tournaments located in New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Delaware, or Pennsylvania. Joining this team is a big investment of time, so we ask our players and parents to ensure that they are completely committed to the team.

ACADEMICS
Even though we are asking for a longer time commitment for your child, we still expect them to maintain their grades in school. Education remains a key component to our athletes at CAL Sports. To ensure that your student is not falling behind in school, we request that their report cards be submitted to the coaches for review. If our coaches notice that your child’s grades are falling, then we will work with parents to develop a plan to help meet their academic goals.  We have State Certified teachers on staff to help your athlete with academic performance.

CAL SPORTS STAFF & PROGRAM
The CAL Sports staff consists of a full staff. I, Coach Corey Lord, am the Chief Executive Officer of CAL Sports. We also have a human resource employee, bookkeeper, program director, web developer, and graphics designer. CAL Sports has two sports administrators, and many full and part-time coaches. We are a for-profit facility, and therefore we cannot offer the same prices as non-profit organizations. Many non-profit sports programs have volunteer coaches, grants, sponsors, and have parents as administrators of the program. Before choosing which type of program you want your athlete to join, consider the value of having professional coaches that CAL Sports offers to advance your child’s athletic skills.

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES
The travel team athletes are involved in community service projects.
These projects consist of helping local churches and non-profit organizations. Examples include assisting the Jewish Relief Agency, Catholic Youth Organization, Hatfield Township, Boy Scout Troops, Shephard Shelf, and Dig Pink. Other types of activities include writing letters to active military personnel and holding Ronald McDonald Food Drives.

In conclusion, the travel team requires your athlete to be a dedicated team member. This program is an investment in time and has a higher cost than the other programs. With the assistance of our professional coaching staff, your child will have the opportunity to reach their full potential as an athlete!
